My mom has alz/dementia and she started this delusion that she has a new friend in the mirror. Talks to her and even tried to give her a tootsie pop. It's herself she is talking too but she don't realize it's her. Is this normal???
My wife never could walk by a mirror w/o stopping to inspect her pretty face. Now she hides stuff to keep it from being stolen by “those women”. I wonder if those women are herself in the bathroom mirror?
My husband will walk into a room, mostly the living room and ask “Where’d they go?, Where did she go?, or Where did he go? “ Sometimes, he’ll bring cookies or something to share with them. When I tell him that I’m the only one here, he looks confused for a minute or so and then forgets and eats the cookies himself after giving me one.
Consider: Is she in danger?
Does the behavior pose a threat to anyone or anything?
Does it lead to greater harm?
This may be simply a make believe friend that fills a void for her.
Generally, the most calming response is to "accept her in her world as it happens to be, at this moment. "At This moment".
Our reality is now meaningless to her.
Yes, My wife would smile at the person in the mirror. Such a terrible disease. It is now over for me but the memories linger.
My husband occasionally confuses a tv story line with reality. He gets upset, and asks “what are we going to do?”
