My dad had gotten mail from our mailbox. At the time I thought it was good. Now we can't find something that had a money order in it and the rest of our mail. We have looked and looked at our house. We can't find it anywhere. Where do dementia patients hide stuff? Also missing is an extra wallet that stupid me again let him keep it in his room. My dad seems more and more like a little kid!
Hubs puts stuff in his pockets that falls inside the couch cushions where he lays.
Mom used to hide things inside her pillowcase or in her hearing aid case (except her hearing aid, which was in a junk jewelry box).
Both hoard, so I am always finding things in random places.
As @A myALZteam Member has already said, they can hide things anywhere. I'm afraid you're going to need to make a thorough search for this, but pay attention as searches come up, because you'll learn what his favorite hiding spots are, and you may also detect a pattern of hiding behaviors (ie, something that makes sense to him, like maybe keeping his wallet in his sock drawer.)
My husband tends to pick things up and simply puts them down in a different location when something else grabs his attention -- so he's not really hiding them, he just gets distracted and walks away -- but it's still a search for a missing item. However, I've gotten better at knowing his typical movements and can usually spot the missing item pretty quickly now.
It’s probably the same place my mom puts stuff, in the trash. I started taking care of my mom’s finances years ago before she even had Alzheimer’s so she knows that all mail goes to me. She knows I take care of Everything! I always have.
Also, I ask someone from God to help me find this. Since then, I added a cash app to my already full phone. Thought my dad would like to see the money come in. This is too much ride to deal with! I still have to set up the app.
Anyway, I had a thought that came from above. Get an envelope address it to me, put something in it, not valuable, put it in the mailbox, bring it in and see where he puts stuff. I got it all ready last night, just need to put my plan in place.
Under the couch, I found lots of dog treats that we were getting short on so that helps too. Seems like we need to think like they do to figure things out!
I looked all the way through the trash can last night. I found some receipts that we don't put in the trash can, a piece of mail, some ads, and a PKG of Oreo cookies, in lots of crumbs mainly ate! I think he gets bored and even through he just ate or wonder if this was from Saturday morning when he gets up earlier than we do. Last night, I found some fruit bars and put one on the table. I was going to put the whole package there but decided for just one! I also found a toy my son used to play with. Hoping maybe he would play with that instead of fideting. It's worth a shot.
Thank you everyone for all the suggestions. Guessing I/we will clean as we look for this money order.
