I got durable power of attorney and medical power of attorney for my husband about two years before he died, in the summer of 2020. Since it was during Covid, two of my lawyer’s paralegals brought the documents to the house, and I explained to Bill what we were doing. I am not sure he understood, but he trusted me and he signed the paperwork.
We did LegalZoom.com suggested by Dave Ramsay. I did it for my Dad when he was diagnosed. Also did it for my hubby and I with son as POA. You will have to print them off, we printed ours at the library. UPS is familiar with the program with Dave Ramsey. We found one and took my Dad even though I had explained everything the best I could with help from others I think he may have understood. He said he did. UPS witnessed and notarized it. My brother had an atty. He looked the papers over and said it all looked legit and would pass the courts. I hope this helps. Saved us hundreds of dollars. My Dad has passed and there were no problems what so ever. I even had to sell his home. The POA if not you will have to be with you to get notarized. Remember to make lots of copies.
I was told once they are diagnosed dementia , it will be harder to get POA. We’ve got Durable POA when he still understood them and was able to sign. You can talk to lawyer .
I went to a local elder attorney and they came to the house to have us sign poA and medical directive.
