The 'meltdown' for lack of a better word usually last less than 24 hours. The good days can last anywhere from a few days to a week or two. Is this cycle part of the dementia? It's like I get relaxed and almost believe things are good again, then wham.
The plateaus and drop offs were ever present in our journey. Just as you get comfortable in your care for your loved one, something new comes along. It’s very unsettling for the caregiver.
Over time, your confidence will increase, you’ll realize quickly it’s just another adjustment. For me, the changes were still unsettling, but my recovery became a little quicker.
There are certain things to keep an eye on. If there is a sudden and harsh behavioral change, and it is persistent, it could be caused by a physical ailment, such as a UTI that may need treatment.
You will soon realize that you are the expert on your loved ones care. Being with them day and night, you will see things that are out of ordinary (whatever that word means 😊)
This place was very helpful to me while I was caring for my wife. I felt I was in good company of people that understood. It felt a lot less lonely.
Hope you find comfort here as well. 🤗
