Most Dementia Cases Are Alzheimer's. My Wife Kathleen Has Fronto-Temporal Dementia. Anyone Else In The Group Whose Loved-one Has FTD?
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

The recent news coverage of Bruce Willis's Fronto-Temporal Dementia (FTD) diagnosis included references to the fact that it is a rare form of dementia. Since my wife has FTD, I was interested. Depending on the reference source, FTD is only responsible for between less than 3% up to 20% of dementias. But it is the primary source of dementia for people between the ages of 45 and 64. In that sense, I guess my wife is somewhat lucky that her first symptoms didn't appear until she was 67.

Yes, this is my husband's diagnosis as well. He is in the late stages now at 63 years of age, and was diagnosed when he turned 60. He is in a nursing home for the past four months. It's a horribly cruel disease that drains everything out of every part of your life, emotionally, financially, spiritually, and physically. I look back over the past 3 years and can clearly see how this disease has wasted NO time in robbing Jay of everything.

Very sorry to hear. Physically, Kathleen can still do most things (including 1 mile walks together) but she can do very little (including brush her teeth) without coaching.

My husband has FTD . He was diagnosed Primary progressive Aphasia early 2019 then MCI 2019 summer then unspecified dementia in Jan 2020. Now diagnosed FTD.
He is 62 yrs old now.
I heard Aricept does not work , but his doctor prescribed it and he is still taking. His memory is not bad , he can not communicate well and he is often irritable or agitated. It is very cruel for both of us. His personality changed .
He can still take shower , shave , but he put on his t shirts backwards often theses days. But he doesn’t let me help much . He is very difficult to take care of …
