my husband eats a lot and has lost a lot of weight. What would cause this?
Thanks Richard10. He definitely has lost muscle! A nurse at his memory care facility said that with Alzheimers the person's body can't process protein. No one else including the doctor seems to have heard of this.
My husband ate everything and his favorite was ice cream. He had it every day. He ate healthy meals including meats, and his last 6 months he lost 30 pounds but continued to eat well. I was surprised to hear about protein.
I've not heard that one regarding protein. Talk to your doctor. My mom would lose weight but not much. I wouldn't worry about it. I will see what I can find online on the subject, but still, call your doctor. From what little I have read and I will send you the link, the issue is with brain protein, not absorption of foods. https://www.alzheimers.gov/news/large-scale-stu...
I am Steven D. Egan. I was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's in late 2019. I have been told that Alzheimer's Patients cannot digest Protein! Is that true?
When I contracted Alzheimer's weighed 213 pounds. Now I weight 173 pounds. This has been worrying me for some time. But people say don't worry about it. My wife is a bit concerned as well. But she does not say much to me. Anybody can reply to my question. Thanks in advance.

WHAT does he eat? Is he exercising?Has his Dr ruled out any underlying disease? Lots of questions to answer. This is a neuromuscular degenerative disease, so the weight loss COULD be muscle loss. Just my input.
