Is It Common To Hire 1x1 Private Care In Addition To The Cost Of Having Their Loved One In Memory Care?
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

Memory care facilities advertise that they can take care of our loved ones, even to their dying day. But anyone who has a loved one in memory care, knows that, other than providing meals for them, administering their meds, and keeping them in a safe (locked) environment, there’s very limited “caring”. This works ok for the early stages of dementia. Not so much, as the disease progresses. Seems like the only choices are to add 1x1 private care or allow the facility to medicate them until they’re… read more

One thing , with my Long term insurance the first 90 days you pay , and if you would take him out say for awhile I believe you have to do the 90 days again, my brother in law was in assisted and wife in memory care he found out no they couldn’t go back to the farm for the summer without paying hers again, he in assisted of course could . The guidelines for turning to Medicade is very through with what you can have and not ,like a house a car and only so much cash .giving it to someone is not an option either ,

I am taking my husband home from memory care because they only have a LPN on weekdays from 9-5. I was told by the ombudsman that the law requires only part time nursing services. This is unacceptable to me because all the people in memory care have health issues due to age. The staff for the most part are very good. There are 18 residents with 4 caregivers. I have long term care and pay almost 10k a month
I was told there was nursing before my husband moved in but the reality was different.

That’s interesting about the sheets with prices for doing things for Vern, if he can’t do them for himself. I don’t think they have anything like that at Greg’s memory care. The only thing I’ve seen is an extra monthly charge for incontinence supplies, if you want them to supply them. But Greg’s are ordered by hospice, with no out of pocket. I’ve also never been charged, when the staff has changed him.

Anyway, I know I’m fortunate that I was healthy enough to keep Greg at home with me up until the moderately severe stage of the disease, when his behavioral issues needed better addressing than I could deal with anymore on my own.

I haven’t as cost, last year it was $7, 280 and they announced in Dec a increase of $960 more 😱😱😳😵‍💫it’s impossible for the average person to make the original and let alone the extra . My husband can still dress, feed himself, and walks all the time, no walker cane, or hearing aids and is 86, he is in another state as couldn’t find placement here in old people country AZ , I am flying out soon, but our daughter lives 4 miles from him . I ageee completely with your statement above , spot on

That makes sense that Medicaid would count his IRA but not mine.
