My husband’s doctor has told me that folks with mental impairment need more sleep as they get older just like babies do - and for the same reason!
He said that babies use most of their energy learning and using their brains. This is why they sleep all the time.
People with AD also work their brains extra hard, trying and trying to think and understand. They use lots of energy and will therefore sleep a lot more.
I hope this helps!
