Last week he had to be guided to the toilet and he knew what to do, now he stands there and wets himself. Oh how I despise this cruel disease!!
I take my husband into the bathroom and sometimes, not very often though, help him unzip his pants. Yesterday he peed all over the floor next to the toilet. It's as if he doesn't know what the toilet bowl is for anymore. I think you need to take toileting to the next level if he'll let you. Getting his drawers down or unzipping his fly. It is a horrible disease. My husband is entering memory care tomorrow and I just hope they can deal with all the strange behaviors and cues he gives when it comes to using the toilet. My heart feels for you.
Just remember their mind works more like a 3 yr old...for toilet use I say: sit here and relax, you're peeing. The same for #2 but you must use moist wipes to keep person clean. Be gentle, and remember that he/she trusts you, so be kind. Yes, it will get worse. Prepare now by getting the right supplies, like adult diapers and ways to protect the bed. We need to help each other because we know best, from experience!
I always point to the toilet. Not good results if I don't.
My husband uses depends. I have to tell him where the bathroom is and a couple time had to point him to the pot.
I'm in the same boat. I use Depends. I hate changing him.
