Separation Anxiety. Is This Common In Alzheimer’s?

A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭
Atlanta, GA

My almost-89 year old mother has never liked to be home alone, and now she has dementia. She gets very nervous and upset if I just leave the room. Is this common with Alzheimer’s?

It is only my opinion, perhaps she can get Mobility therapy approved by her doctor.

Mother at her age can still keep up with me, it appears she never gets tired.

They say use it or lose it, as I believe Your mom needs to walk a little bit more everyday.

When I leave my mother in a room for a few minutes, she feels secure as we monitor each other through a camera and a Open intercoms throughout the house. Hug

Yes, my mother is also 94 and wants me in the same room at all times. I love her very much but it’s very smothering. I’ve always needed some alone time but just get it when she goes to bed and then I’m so tired, I go to sleep too.

Mother is 94 years old, and now lives with me and is used to me being with her 24/7.

Before she came to live with me, I was her next door neighbor so I was at her house all the time. she was very nervous when alone and nolonger wanted to live by herself.

Mobility therapy - what a good idea! I will look into that! Thank you, Austin. 🙂

My mom is like a toddler...she is 87....and follows me everywhere and does not want to be alone but “fires” every caregiver I have had....im exhausted by it all...I too need alone time and take frequent walks....they do help but I worry about her.
