What Can A Spinal Tap Show?
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

My husband apparently doesn’t present as typical early onset, so neurologist has ordered a spinal tap? Has anyone experienced one and what does it reveal?

They did not give Jay a spinal tap. Has he seen a neuropsychologist for testing? This is what they had Jay do, (he did so poorly they couldn't even finish a lot of the testing), but were able to determine his diagnosis of Primary Progressive Aphasia (not stroke related).

Hi Dianne, my husband has Aphasia and has declined considerably. I looked up in books spinal tap and it said it can detect infection, even Lyme disease which I hear can be sometimes difficult to detect.

Sserfass, what kind of information are they giving you? It's a rather rare form of dementia and there isn't much information out there on it. I have tried to find an online support group for this specific diagnosis, but so far, I haven't found anything.
