My mother was placed into rehab after a stint in hospital. She has Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia but is an amazing actress which tends to fool staff. Despite myself being the contact person for all mums needs the hospital allowed her to make the decision to check herself out without any consultation from myself or her geriatrician. @A myALZteam Member you are so right to get all the legal and financial matters taken care of now. I recently got healthcare power of attorney for my husband and have already used it several times. That is especially valuable now because of Covid.

Here, PoAs have to be registered with institutions such as banks and hospitals for them to be aware. After that they are duty bound to act through the attorney and can be subject to legal sanction if they don’t.

Yes, I do think you need to get things in order too!! It is a process to deal with that was nerve wrecking for me. Parents had a will that was invalid once we proceeded Power of attorney for financial, medical, and mental health. Once done you will be easier on tou. 🙏🏻🌻

I see from your profile that you live in Australia. Laws may vary from country to country, so you might be best served by meeting with an Elder Care Attorney. There will be a lit of questions so get your parents’ paperwork in order, I.e., assets, debt, checkbook, insurance policies, stocks.
