A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

Two medical issues at present. My dad is healthier than most 95 year olds. He does sleep most of the day. Recently, at a visit to the optometrist the doc suggested cataract surgery in the eye that hasn't previously been done (15 years ago). He suggested that Dad and I talk it over and Dad wants to leave the decision to me
Also, he has had some skin cancer patches removed and now has another appointment at his dermatologist. He had a follow up appointment at the hospital for two deep spots that… read more

Procedures come with risks. In my opinion, only put him through that which will improve his quality of life.

I took my Mom off all her Alzheimer medication a year after I found out what was going on with her
It was suppose to be to get her weight up she was 87lbs when i realized something was wrong with her
But I never put her back on any of it i feel let nature take its course its been over 10yrs and she's still here
I also say no to certain procedures the doctor's want to do to her she is 93 and what can they really do for her at this point
I feel she should be comfortable at the age not a ginny pig

Do a form with his doctor. molst. For care options. At 95 my feeling is don’t tie his days up with medical procedures and appointments quality vs quantity of life just saying ....

My Aunt is 97 and I had doctors wanting to do this and that with her. I made a decision to just let her be. I talked with her and she didn't want surgery or anything else. She is doing very well and much better than most older seniors. She walks every day and loves to go to the casino and shopping. So what the heck, I don't want her to go through any surgeries. At this stage of life I want her to just take each day and enjoy the life she has left.
