Dad has ALZ but is quite strong and still exercises faithfully every day (which I love, because it gives him something to do). Mom is recovering from a stroke. She is doing great but is still really weak. Dad missed her so much in the hospital that now she is home, he is hugging and kissing her almost every time he walks by her. This is an issue for us, can’t remember for how long, but we’ve never left our grandson, now 5, alone with Jackie. Now she grips her own arms and legs hard enough to bruise occasionally and if I don’t keep on top of her nails, to scratch herself. Like you, I don’t have a solution except vigilance and suitable clothing. Such lack of normal sensitivity did crop up as an issue for numerous service users at the day care places Jackie attended. By contrast occasionally she will lay her hand on my arm as gently as she once did. That’s nice.
