My father 77 sees lots of people in the house at night, is up all night keeping my 75 year old mother awake. We try to explain no one can get in because of the dog and motion detectors on the doors, he refuses to believe us and takes all the phones off the hooks trying to figure out how to call the police. Does anyone have suggestions that may help when he refuses to go back to bed?
To him these people he's seeing are real. It's no use trying to convince him otherwise. If this is a big problem at night see if you can increase his activity during the day. Maybe try an adult day program. If he's tired he'll sleep. Everyone I've talked to that's had this problem finds day programs to be a huge benefit.
If you don't have a day program near you try and find "chores" around the house or yard he can do. Even simple tasks might tire him out. Matching socks, sweeping, raking are all safe and somewhat helpful tasks. I know one gal has her Mom dust. She must have the cleanest surfaces going!
Perhaps talk to his dr re possible sundowning behaviour if agitation is during evening and night...there are meds to calm him.
Brenda- those are great suggestions!
Maybe see if she would eat a snack such as half a cheese or PBJ sandwich. Sitting her down at a table and offering food or a favorite drink may help. Any known physical issues? Maybe a UTI? Did she drink a beer or wine in the past? If so, I would offer her one. Wine can be diluted with water if she's at high risk for falls. Perhaps everyone can alter their sleep patterns to coincide with his? Hugs.

Awww, I don't have suggestions or help for you but I wanted to say hello. I am sure that someone will have suggestions because I do know how common it is for confusion to take place at night. My husband is non verbal and unable to walk, so thankfully he sleeps peacefully. My heart goes out to you.
