Why Do I Have To Keep Fighting For Respect And Dignity For My Mom!
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

I don’t know if anyone else is experiencing my fight My Mom was in a memory care unit fell and broke her femur. It has been six weeks now of nothing but arguing with hospital and rehab personnel. First in the hospital they refuse to allow her to wear depends. So she sat around in a hospital gown and nothing else. She is 88 years old where is her dignity. Had her up doing PT with only a gown on. Once again where is her dignity respected

This infuriates me to read this. As a caregiver, I am embarrassed when I hear stories like this. Sadly, there is no regard for patients dignity anymore. That's why I prefer to do private care in peoples homes to allow them the dignity, respect and proper care that they are deserving of.
I am so sorry your mom has been put through all of these atrocities and that you have had to fight (and pay), more than you should have to for proper care.

I am so sad that happened to you and your mom. Unfortunately all seniors are treated poorly asdor a few reasons. 1.Culturally Americans don’t esteem the elderly. 2. Hospital/rehab/long term care is grossly underfunded, staff is chronically overworked, over stressed, and underpaid. Just like the Mentally ill. 3.Many Family members are overwhelmed with the burden of ensuring proper care.
You do have recourse. Call the hospital and lodge a complaint. Call the # on her insurance card and tell them also. Believe me they will respond as payment for services are tied to pt satisfaction.
Good Luck.

Thank you Dorinda for choosing to do private care in homes. I wish there was more of you.
