How Do I Stop My Husband From Drinking Alcohol
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

My husband has been diagnosed with vascular dementia last year but won’t stop drinking.
He has to have his three beers a day.
If I don’t buy it (since he doesn’t drive anymore, he will go walking to buy it and
then gets lost on the way back home.

Hi Amiee...my Italian hubby still has his two glasses daily of diluted red wine and an occasional beer....as an RN I have no concern re this and think your hubby will be ok with his 3 beers unless dr feels differently....could try lower alcohol beer if hubby ok with that.

My husband has quite drinking vodka . He can’t drive to get it. At first I would stop and buy it and make sure we only went to town one a week. When he drink it it would make crazy. Finely I told him I wouldn’t stop so he could buy it. I told him I would take care of him with his memory lost, but not both memory lost and a drinking problem. He would get bad but would get over it. I was told that it is the sugar in the drinks that they want. I was told to keep candy and other sweets around. I make sure I have sprite on hand for him to drink. Good luck to all of you that are dealing with this big problem.

Well getting him to stop completely may b a little too much. Perhaps getting him to drink one beer less a day would b good enough. Perhaps one of his medications isnt as effective with drinkimg. That could b a way to get him to drink less. There is also non-alcoholic beer and it tastes alot like the real thimg.

If severe enough doctor can prescribe a medication that will definitely deter the behavior.
