My dad (87yr), goes to bed at 8pm. He'll get up once to pee, either before midnight or between 5-6am. He will then want to stay in bed until noon if allowed. This seems excessive to me. Thoughts please.
Hi Morg3de. Could it be his drugs? My husband takes antipsychotic drugs for aggression along with Seroquel for sleepless nights. Upon the start of taking the new drugs he experienced very long periods of sleep (18 to 19 hours a day)....I went from having no time for myself and dreading the start of each day to feeling lonely and missing him. I was concerned and called his neurologist who assured me it was normal and would level off within a few weeks and it did! Recently experiencing sleepless nights again his neurologist increased the dosage of Seroquel. He now sleeps a total of 12 hours per day including nap time.
Alzheimer's is all about changing behaviors and for us it's about loss, acceptance and growth.
Sending warmest wishes to you and your dad,
Sandra
It could be the meds as I give the ones that cause drowsiness at night. 630pm. So a 12hr night might not be bad. Thanks π
