Cleanliness
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

How do I approach asking my dad to shower, to be cleaner.? He is not changing his clothes often enough as well. My mom is his main caregiver, and this is so stressful for her.

I used to take fresh towels to my dad in the morning and he would then ask me what they were for. I would tell him "Dad, you asked me to bring you a towel so that you could have a nice shower so you could get some nice clean clothes on after you have been working so hard" "I can wash your other clothes while you have your shower" That seemed to work with him. At that stage he was capable of showering himself. Hope that helps

Does he change for bedtime? Put his clothes out every day. Tell him your going to go for ice cream, but he needs to shower first.❤️

My Mom needs help to shower. We use a shower bench which I cover with a towel for padding. We changed to a hand held sprayer. She showers twice a week & in between we use Cottonelle wipes after toileting and rinseless soap & a washcloth as needed while she sits on the toilet. If you spray her back immediately she acts like a knife was plugged into her back. Start with water on feet where they can see it & slowly move up the body.

My husband is the same. After much bribing with food or cigarettes I can get him showered and in clean clothes at least 2-3 times a week.

My Mum became afraid of the shower, particularly water falling on her face. She was also sensitive to cold & how showering made her cold afterwards. My step father got around this my warming the bathroom to subtropical temperatures and helping her to do a stand up wash in front of the sink instead
