My father has been prescribed Ambien for his active wakeful nights. He walks around the house and keeps the family up asking questions. The Ambien only seems to work a few short three hours. I fear this drug is just inappropriate for someone who wakes in a state of confusion and only seems to cause more confusion after a 3 to 4 hour power nap. Anyone else?
Our doctor says anyone who suffers with Alz should not take ambien. My husband was put on trazodone. This works for him.
If this drug is useless in the long term (more hours sleep) then inform your doctor, who should change it. These drugs cannot affect everyone the same way, we are all different. I'm sure they will be understanding and sort something out for you, Best of luck!
My husband is on xanax. he has tried several drugs for alzheimers and he has reacted badly to all including trazadone. The xanax has been the only drug that seems to help even a little. He is on the lowest dose and the dr just increased it from three a day to four a day.
My mom has Alzheimer's and we had to have her put on something to sleep, but doctor put her on a Antidepressant and at first it helped alot but now she sleeps maybe 5 hours and she is getting up to use the restroom so that tells me she isn't sleeping all night.
