Will A Hospital Bed Help Keep My Mom From Getting Out Of Bed At Night?

A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭
Demotte, IN

My mom will get up at night to use the restroom every couple hours. Last night she fell 3 times. If I purchased a hospital bed with rails will this detour her from getting out of bed as much or will it be an accident waiting to happen trying to go around the rails?

Bed sensors or a low profile bed is probably the best way forward. Somebody who is reasonably mobile is at greater risk of injury if they climb over the rails. There is also the risk of entrapment (not sure what the rails look like). You could also try crash mats that go on the floor.

Oh I just know my sister would crawl over the bars and fall for sure. She is a nightmare with our recliner chairs!! I hope you find a good solution for your mom.

Thank you for all your help! We did take the box spring mattress off so now her bed is a lot lower. I believe we are going to purchase a bed alarm like suggested. Thank God she didnt break any bones!
