Researching I saw this medicine was used for Epileptic seizures & bipolar but not Alzheimer’s. The week of Thanksgiving my mom went into Hospice for comatose like agitation. She’s on 25mg in AM & Afternoon & 200mg at night of Serequel. She has times where she’s agitated & doesn’t sleep, so they gave me Lorazepam 1mg if she has anxiety & insomnia and Haloperidol 5mg as needed. She has been agitated & delusional for 34 hours now and full of meds that could calm a raging gorilla and yet talking and… read more

My Dad is now in Long-term Care. He is currently on a low dose of Seroquel at bedtime (1mg), Dilauded (1mg) 4x a day and Zoloft (1mg).
Make sure that your loved one's behavior isn't the result of pain!! They can't always recognize or communicate pain and it comes out in their behavior.
The above meds are is in addition to his Alzheimer's meds. The doctor always monitors for 3 days when giving a new med to see how my Dad tolerates it. It took about 6 months to get the medications and dosages right, and I made sure to advocate and be on top of it always. They can't give my Dad a med unless I approve it, and I have said no to some and yes to others after thoroughly researching them and being aware of any conflicts with other meds. NEVER assume a doctor is aware of everything to do with your loved one unless it is your regular family doctor. Make sure you get the final say and advocate, advocate, advocate!

My husband was in the hospital for three days due to a clinical trial drug bad reaction. He was highly agitated and verbally abusive to me and the staff. They gave him Atavan to calm him. It had the opposite effect and we almost had to restrain him. Security was called. It was a terrible scene. I was eventually able to calm him but just hugging him and talking softly to him. But we learned that atavan and drugs in that class are bad for some patients. He went home on Seroquel 25 mg 3 times per day.
