My mother has Dementia and my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's last summer. Is there a way to find out if I have early stage Dementia/Alzheimer's?

I need an official diagnosis but would like more details on caregiving and what level she's at, and whether certain meds are affecting her paranoia. Need advice on psychiatric meds, etc. So do I go to appointments using HER insurance? Or go to my own psychiatrist and ask questions about her? I am reading so much about people who has alzheimers have diabetes and if you control the diabetes then you have a chance of getting rid of alzheimers. This is completely against everything I have learned and did my medical classes report on. I know we all hope there will be a cure. Unfortunately I think research is grasping at air.
