I'm a musician, and there's this group of folks who like to throw down some songs at a local senior center. It's a big release for me. Dad (89 with late-stage dementia) comes with because he loves to listen to music. Helps that our lead singer is around Dad's age, and one of the women who also likes to listen (she's 93 and still drives) has become Dad's friend. According to rumor, they're an item.
But it's a win-win. I load in, play a couple of hours worth of music while Dad listens and hangs out with his friend. We finish, load out, and Dad talks with the lead singer. It's one of the high points of his week.
That's the best kind of activity. Therapeutic for the both of us. I can do my thing, Dad can do his, and I can rest easy knowing he's safe and doing something he enjoys.
