My Dad is suffering with Alzheimers and his Doctor has got him on 2 x 25mg of Quetiapine for the depression, I have been reading up on this and and I am not entirely sure it is doing Dad any favours. Does anyone else have any experience of this drug in the treatment of Alzheimers - good or bad. I just want my Dad to be around for a bit longer so any suggestions would be appreciated.
My mom is on it. She takes 12.5 mg mornings and 12.5 at night. They just reduced the dosage as they thought it might be making her delusions worse. How can you tell what work and what doesn't? Everything is a guessing game with this disease.
My husband takes Quetiapine and I was to understand that it is a sleeping aide as well as for agitation.
I give him 1 - 25mg pill every evening around 8:00 p.m. and it calms him down and he is ready for sleep.
He sleeps all night and wakes up feeling rested. We have had no problems with it. Hope all goes well!
Effexor is probably a bit much for Alzheimer's patients (I am an RN and wife of a patient), however, there a any number of antidepressants that may help. The trick is finding the right one. My Mother is on it as well. It calms her and has done okay. We've only had trouble with Effexor, so far.
My husband is on Quetiapine and it has been a huge help though we have taken him off the Exelon because he was getting very agitated on it. The quetiapine helps him to keep him calm and eases his frustration his day program has seen a huge improvement in his behaviour
