My dad is 86 he falls a lot and has difficulty in walking, can this be as a result of alzheimers? this is different from day to day, will have certains days where all is fine and no problems with walking
Wheels walker
I would say yes. I think most elderly people are at risk of falling, but the Alzheimer's seems to be a factor as well. My mum has fallen three times in the last year and once the year before. She has fractured her pelvis, split her forehead and needed stitches, and other times not a scratch. Wandering at night has been our main concern. Alzheimer's does affect coordination as it progresses and most end up in a wheelchair or bedridden as they can no longer walk. I hope your dad wasn't badly injured in any of his falls. Carpets and floors with patterns, such as tiles can be very confusing for them as well. My mother has difficulty walking on certain floors, it seems to affect her depth perception and distracts her and she sort of hallucinates that things are there on the carpet rather than realizing it is the pattern. She has to have someone holding her elbow at all times.
Maybe simple chair exercises. There are lots of videos on simple things. Even hand exercises such as just squeezing small flexible balls Any thing for both physical and mental stimulation
Hello there. My mom also started having balance problems and falling. It is largely due ti tge fact that they arent as active as they used to be and something changes in their brain related to balance. The doctor prescribed physical therapy for my mom. It has helped so much!
