What colour is the floor? Is there a difference between the room floor and shower floor? Can you make it all one colour or texture so that she doesn't feel that she is stepping off the edge of a cliff when steps in - which I understand some people see as their vision gets altered. How can you make it a safe place for her to enter? One of the toughest things I find is that the person doesn't articulate what they are thinking - but then i learnt that often that is because they don't know why they are having this difficulty. It is very helpful to look up Teepa Snow's videos where she shows you how vision alters and in time the person can only see as if they were looking through binoculars the wrong way round - try it - put your hands on your eyes as if they were binoculars and then look down and around and up - you will find that you have a narrow field of vision so it's possible that when your mother looks down she can't see the floor?

I know how you feel...my dad is the same way! I finally had to get Paramed involved! I have a lady who comes in once a week to give him a bath. No problems! Dad was in the hospital for a couple of weeks and I noticed that when the nurses came in to give him a bath almost daily there were no problems! But when I urged this...no way! So I had to hire someone to come in and do it!

My mom has a hard time physically getting into the shower and she's afraid of the drain. Basically I just get in with her wearing my underwear, have her sit on the shower seat and spray her down with the handheld sprayer. I'm careful with the water temperature and I make sure to tell her what I'm doing every step of the way. Then comes the getting dressed...Also getting the clothes off in the first place! It's hard to explain over and over why we need to take off our clothes before getting in the shower. I think she's a little embarrassed. It makes her less embarrassed though since I'm in my underwear.
