I guess we were deceitful. His walking and behavior had declined to the point that it was time for skilled nursing facility. We told him he was going in for rehab for his walking. Since VA helped us out, we always say he is there because VA drs said he needs to be there, which is a true statement. He associates the VA with the military and obeying orders.

In my experience The doctor should tell his patient.,
Explain situation and answer all of your questions! Coming from a loved one will make him feel lost. And you can use zThenDoctor
Says this and that!! You shouldn’t have to explain his condition.💚JDT

We placed my husband into an assisted living facility on Monday. I sat him down on Monday morning and told we are moving his bed and belongings to the facility and they would help me take care of him. All he said was okay.

Jan, My husband has never acknowledged his dementia. I had a couple drs talk to him and he didn't think anything was wrong. He is now in memory care. We were advised not to tell him in advance as he would just worry or forget. But move in day was very stressful. He was overwhelmed, as you can imagine. I'm there a lot - like a 2nd home! I still don't really know what he thinks about things, but I know he is well cared for by professionals in a very nice environment. I'm constantly impressed with the caring nature of the CNAs.
