How do you deal with anger issues in public? He asked me to take him to the local Rite Aid store shopping for Christmas. He said to leave him alone while he shopped and I did. I was close by around the corner where he could not see me. He found me and said he could not find Christmas boxes. I told him we had several at home from last year that were not used. He shouted at me not to tell him what to do. So I pointed out where the boxes were and left him shopping. He opened the… read more
Afternoons and evenings are the worst, so if you want less stress, go out in the morning and let them direct where they look. If they need you to tell them where something is, that's okay, but they… read more
My mother is in early stages of Alzheimer's, she is currently on Aricept 10mg daily. Her neurologist took her off her Namenda because we saw no improvement within the first month. I hear there is a 23mg Aricept but it frequently causes GI upset. I wondered if anyone has any experience with that dosage? And if anyone has any other suggestions i would greatly appreciate it. This is just the start of this journey with my mom and sisters. I am feeling a little helpless and being a nurse it is my… read more
My husband used to get explosive diarrhoea about 4 hours after taking 10mg of Aricept but a friend suggested I give him 1/2 a tablet in the morning and 1/2 at night and that has worked out well.
Happy Holidays to you also
My mum had a seizure yesterday, resembling an epileptic seizure. It was really frightening and she fell unconcious afterwards. After she recovered she seemed to be fine, although she was very pale and her blood pressure was low. This may be her second seizure. I don't know much about them. I tried looking up info online and it said 10-20% of ALz people in the later stages may have seizures, one article suggested Aricept should be discontinued in late stage Alz for that reason. It was a… read more

My husband has a Medicare Part D plan. Each year they perform a home visit (available for all on the plan, not because of my husband's AD) where they help us assess his situation and connect us with… read more
My mom has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, which we think is mid stage. I live out of state, and just saw her over Thanksgiving. She wants to fly to see us for Christmas. My husband and I aren't able to fly down and fly back with her (we both have full time jobs), and we have no other family members to help with this. I have been looking into direct flights, and I know airlines will help, but am I crazy for considering having her fly by herself to spend a week in our home?
I think her flying would work like with children, where you let the airlines know they need someone to keep track of them at either end of the flight. Unless she gets terribly confused, it could… read more
Husband unable to do many things he could do before. Does this mean the disease will continue to progress rapidly? This decline happened rather rapidly. Need to know to plan for future. Very scary.
Please still prepare for the unknown. I knew my Mom was declining. But she was still here. But in one week she was rushed to the hospital because her pressure
dropped. She didn't come home. So… read more
