I thought assisted living is NOT 24 hour care. Whereas long term care involves 24 hour care.
That helps a lot. Thanks Richard10. I didn’t know about the medication situation. That is something my husband would definitely need.
Yes. We has to apply 3 times. Took best part of a year. All the time my husband was getting worse and I had to keep working.
My hubby has not been officially diagnosed but our family doctor says MCI. He is somewhat in denial thinking it's normal for a 75 year old!
Besides all his memory and cognitive issues, his PT (after shoulder surgery) recommended a neurologist for neck and hand tremors.
I'm nervous about what to explain to Dr since my loved one is pretty adamant these things aren't happening.
I told our family Dr either my hubby or I needed anxiety pills. He said I needed to get out more. No way. He gets… read more
If your doctor is dismissive about your anxiety, you may need a new doctor. Family doctors are not always the best suited to deal with dementia patients and their caregivers. Some neurologists I… read more

I've watched my dad take the SLUMS about five times. The same questions every time, every six months. It is painful to watch and he's gotten worse at answering them. That being said, does anyone else think that their loved one could do better if the questions were asked more slowly and clearly?
I've seen a few different people ask the questions (an assistant) and some read the questions SO fast, move on the to next questions quickly, etc. that I really don't think we're getting an accurate… read more
@A myALZteam Member I really appreciated reading your thoughts, thank you. Good points. My best to you and your family. I admire you and your attitude.
My Mamma is 100% bedcare/bedridden. It pains her greatly to be rolled on her side for cleaning. It hurts me to have to do it to her, but I have to. I am one tiny person, and my back is paining me so it can be difficult to get her clean with one hand and holding her with the other to push her off her back. No, I cannot afford help. I don't have any firm wedges to hold her up. She gets weaker, plus her heart pains her when she has to be turned up for diaper changes, etc
There has to… read more

Is the type of dementia they have important?
My dad went to a neurologist to get tested. I would say make an appointment with one. Check with the primary doctor if he knows a good one to refer you to. I took my dad to his primary doctor and… read more

The final diagnosis of Dementia, Alzheimer’s type is very fresh here. We just met with neurologists who shared results of testing and then with my husband’s regular neurologist a couple of weeks ago. He has not spoken again about the diagnosis since we drove away from the doctor’s office. As his wife and caregiver, I am trying to learn as much as I can. HOW DO I INITIATE A CONVERSATION (or do I?)
Thanks everyone, in advance.
Great question. She refuses do go to doctors, and I need a diagnosis!
