I agree that a neurologist is an essential member/head of your LO's treatment team once a diagnosis of Alzheimer's has been established. Some specialists diagnose but don't treat Alzheimer's. Look for a neurologist that TREATS Alzheimer's patients throughout the course of their illness. If you need a recommendation contact your local Alzheimer Association in your local area. I find our branch here in Naples FL an extraordinary source of information, referrals, resources and programs. Good luck!

Post-diagnosis, my husband was discharged by the neurologist and psychiatric team. No matter how good the primary care, I found it inadequate and had to fight for many months to be referred back to specialists. I have found that being under the care of a neurologist has huge advantages. Their knowledge of the disease is usually more extensive than that of a Primary Care doctor, as is their understanding of available treatments. My husband is doing better with specialist care
