Very much so. We’ve been fortunate in avoiding colds, flu and viruses but we’ve dealt with recurring UTI’s and they had devastating effects on her. She lost physical abilities, walking, feeding herself, etc. as well as bouts of agitation.
She would gain most back after a few rounds of antibiotics and return to a pleasant demeanor as well.
Anything that affects the way they feel will negatively affect them physically and mentally.
If there’s a sudden and drastic change it would be a good idea to get them checked out.
Every time my mother got a UTI, she would pretty much turn into a zombie. I could see it the minute I walked into the door (of her nursing home.) I would tell staff but they said she has to tell them 3 of her ailments - pain when urinating etc. My mother was non-verbal. I offered to pay for it. They were so stubborn. I had to fight them every time. So frustrating.
Absolutely. My husband almost died twice, then in ICU for a week due to undetected UTI. Dont be shy about getting medical help.
