We placed my mom in memory care 6 months ago. She's very mobile and in good health other than her cognition and verbal skills. She continues to ask to come home multiple times a week. While the staff is friendly and the majority of time mom's happy when engaged this past week mom started packing her room up again. @A myALZteam Member I hope someone can answer your question about solving the packing with a secure closet. It's always nice to know what is standard practice. I would see if a Memory Care Navigator in your area can meet with you for a free assessment and discuss the pros and cons of moving your mom. I had a helpful discussion with someone from a local nonprofit like this regarding my dad. Your story resonated with me (parent finances, caregiver coordination, young kids--oh my!) and I added you to "my team." My best to you.
Some people tell them they are on vacation or tomorrow. Distract them. An example at a course I was on when they asked to go home. You say I want my cat. Then ask what color how old etc.
