Does Anyone Else’s LO Have Pain In Their Legs?
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

My husband has bad pain in his right leg when he walks. He grimaces and signs a lot, even when sitting. Sometimes I have to help him to the bathroom. Also, his foot swells and turns blue. I am going to call his doctor today but was wondering if anyone else’s LO has experienced this.

Eva, my feet never turned blue, but I had massive swelling in each foot at different times. I was diagnosed as having “veinous insufficiency” (collapse of the veins in the leg). On my right leg, the problem was corrected by surgery on two veins and chemical treatment on two others. The vascular surgeon was able to treat my left leg with an ultrasound procedure, much simpler. I had these procedures about eight years ago and I have not had a problem since.

When his foot turns blue, it is a sign that it is not getting sufficient blood circulation. There are several things that can cause this. Claudication - in sufficient circulation from narrowed arteries is one - think of it like angina in the heart. Certainly a DVT can cause these symptoms also. The danger with a blood clot is that it can break away and travel to a critical organ. If it lands in the heart, you have a heart attack. If it lands in the lung, you have a pulmonary embolism, and if it lands in the brain, you have a stroke. All of these are very serious so I agree with others. Take him to the doctor or ER ASAP. There are other possibilities as well, but he really needs to be checked out.

Sedentary people are subject to DVT.. Deep Vein Thrombosis. VERY DANGEROUS if not treated. Recliner chair with legs elevated reduces normal swelling. Swelling can also be a sign of lymphatic system issues, or congestive heart failure. URGENT MEDICAL ATTENTION NEEDED!

If you can't get into your doctor today I would suggest taking him to the ER. My husband had a blot clot in an aneurysm behind his knee which ended up in him losing his leg. Do not wait!
