Cindy, in the summer of 2020, I had our main bathroom renovated to eliminate the shower/tub and to replace it with a walk-in shower. My wife still refused to use the shower. My wife’s gerontologist told me that many dementia patients are frightened by the shower - a combination of the spray, the noise and the heat. She (the gerontologist) recommended that I give my wife sponge baths, which I do each day when she gets up.

Is a sponge bath as good as a shower in getting someone clean? Clearly not. Is a sponge bath better than no cleaning? Clearly yes.
