My father is agitated almost constantly without medications. Or else he in tears. It's horrible. The doctor had him try Seroquel, which worked, but the side effects were terrible (tremors, wobbliness, inability to stay awake). He tried Haldol, without too much success. Now they have him talking Lorazepam frequently, and it's just not working. We just want him to be comfortable and not feel terrible all the time. What has worked for your loved one in this situation? Thank you.
Thank you. I asked about an antidepressant but apparently it can affect how well the lorazepam works. It's a balancing act!
My husband takes 50 mg of Sertraline every morning. It seems to help does make him sleepy but helps with anxiety and anger. He also takes his alz med donazipril which is generic aricept. Somedays it is a struggle to get him to take his pills. Taking his pills in the morning seems to be a better time for us. Hope this helps. It also seems to help with his hallucinations. So many challenges for all of us. My mom who had Alzheimers also took Sertraline and that helped here. It is also called Zoloft. Take care.
Taking care of someone you love is a balancing act for sure. Hope thinks work out.
