I've had my 81 yo mom living with me for the last 5 years. We have a routine at night where she puts her pajamas on, brushes teeth, checks blood (she's a diabetic), takes insulin and takes her pills. Kathr, I was able to reassure my mom and now my husband by lighting the subject with hugs and kisses saying things like, "I love you so much and I love taking care of you. What would I do without you? I know what it does to you if you don't take it. I just couldn't bear it. Besides that, it sure would make it harder for me." Being reassuring and as honest as you can be makes them feel safe and a touch of honesty reminds them you're doing the best you can.
Hope this helps.
Blessings.
Kathr,
Just like ldella, when Mom gets confused and upset I just hug and kiss her and tell her I love doing things for her.
I have added you to my team as I take care of my mother to.
Stay strong, blessings.
My mother has had this confusion also. I reassure her that I or my father will always make sure she is taken care of and would never forget to give her her insulin. She has a pump so I show her the pump, and one time I pretended to give her a bulis so she could calm down.
