What To Do About Dentist Appointments ?
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

My husband had an appointment today for a cleaning, never a problem before. He became very agitated with the water thing running into his mouth, refused to go any further. We had been there about 5 minutes.

Do we just give up the dentist altogether?

It is, of course, ultimately up to you to decide what you think your husband can handle - but here is a story that might help. I had a telemedicine appointment with my Mom’s neurologist a couple of weeks ago and we talked about how to ease my Mom into going places after we have been staying at home for so long. My Mom has some anxiety and I don’t want our trips out to be difficult so we have been doing “practice runs” and just started going out for drives every couple of days. On those days, I adjust her anxiety medicine up a little bit and it makes it easier and less stressful for her (and for me!) All of this is to say that since your husband doesn’t go to the dentist every day, he is probably really anxious. Anxiety medicine can help and maybe having a water pic to clean with at home so the water in his mouth isn’t so surprising. Sending hugs and support!❤️

It’s hard to say. Sounds like your husband was scared. Was he able to tell you what was wrong ? My husband did well at the dentists office and the optometrist. I was there but I really didn’t have to say much. He was able to follow instructions on his own. The dentist, hygienist, Receptionist’s and the people at the optometrists office were quite patient with him. They talked him through everything and made sure they addressed him directly and only asked me questions if he was unable to answer.
