My dad has spent most of his life building things -- not as a job, but a very strong hobby. He has built furniture to houses. He's in mid-stage ALZ now. I'd like to find something he can build. Lincoln Logs and Kinex are still too childlike for him. Typical models I find at hobby shops are too intricate. Any idea what I can get that would be in the middle of these? I think model building would be great but it has to be more simple. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
How about bird houses, there are big models of these . The ones for purple martens are quite big and so very useful. The martens eats tons of mosquitoes ,so very useful. Be sure you have someone who can put it on a tall pole
Over here we have a thing called Mecano. All girders and nuts and bolts. They do a large scale version that is easier for folks whose dexterity isn’t what it was. We had some fun with Lego in our support group and also with modelling clay.
I remeber growing up my older brother and i would do models he the more intricate ones and i the easier one made by airfix i think, i also like what NormaDeAnne said about bird houses, especially your Dad having built homes for people i think he would love to build homes for other living creatures
Legos make some pretty sophisticated model kits. Hobby Lobby’s website might have projects that are more to his liking. Alternatively, might your husband take a crack at drawing or painting? I trace pictures then paint using watercolor pens.
Laura, of course I don’t mind you asking, but I’m in UK so I’m not knowledgeable on the specifics in the USA. Whichever side of the pond, getting the legals sorted while it is possible is very important. You may wish to put your question as a post. I know there are plenty of folks here from the USA who have done what you are going to do tomorrow. I hope it goes well for you. S.
