M.i.l. seems to think my f.i.l. starting these will have him better than ever. The info I found said it can help some, but the details were not that encouraging to me. It sounds like it will help but not as much as she is counting on.😞 I don't want to be pessimistic, but I AM realistic....FIL is middle stages and can understand the reason for the cpap.
Bless your heart! Decline before your eyes is so tough! It's like they disappear. I feel your need to keep up activity to prevent muscle loss- I'm an "old" RN. Think medical backgrounds have their pros and cons! Helps with some problem solving but worry with others!!
They want my husband to do the c pap it drove him crazy , so he told me he didn’t want to use it. I told him that was fine, he sleeps in a recliner so that helps some.
My husband had used C-pap for several years before his diagnosis. He wore it until this January and then flat out refused. He does sleep better in recliner but I am worried that two much sitting is going to cause mobility problems so I like him to go to bed at night to stretch out.
Physical Therapy: As a therapist myself - trying to treat any muscle problem my husband has - it is tough. Following directions of how to do an exercise - pretty much impossible. I do try and get him up for a walk every day and up until a few months ago - he would play ping pong in our basement(old skill) for activity. Early on, he could do an elliptical machine.
If they'll keep mask on it will help with night time breathing and sound sleep. I use a BiPAP- step above CPAP. It could be an issue keeping mask on though but I'd try! My husband reacted to Dementia Patient printed on ID braceley with name and address provided by VA. I explained it's just the medical term for memory loss which he is aware he has. He did put it on next and so far.....3 days. Very difficult clasp!
C pap machine has come up a couple of times recently but in both cases the Alz person would not keep mask on.
