Is It Safe To Take Someone On Holiday With Alzheimers
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

I am my aunts carer and have a holiday booked that i would like to take her on, its just we are a bit concerned if she goes wandering, we know most of her places at home to look for her, we will be with her 24/7 but she does sometimes wander during the night

Thanks Kathleen. I did submit a claim. He is at peace for now with me going away for a week. He likes the caregiver/companion. She laughs at his jokes and visits with him. She is a CNA and also works in an assisted living facility.

Plans have changed. I have cancelled his portion of the cruise. The lady who takes care of him for 4 hours a week will come in to take care of him 8 hrs a day for 7days. Then grand daughter will be here at night. I may have to eat the $2,500 I paid for his portion of the trip plus the caregivers cost. My sanity is worth it. A girlfriend is going with me on the cruise. I already told my kids I would die broke. Seems that will happen now.

For the best part, crew members understand the predicaments you face, and will only be too willing to help you get on and off the boat. There is no way I would leave hubby in strange surroundings for any length of time, and the different experiences should stimulate him, and make him tired for his nights sleep. I hope you BOTH enjoy your cruise!!

I am taking my husband on a cruise on the Mississippi River. Last year we took a cruise with this company and they were wonderful. He could walk better then. I am prepared to stay on the boat with him if needed. At home he sleeps most of the day. I hope he does that on the cruise. It would not work to get a caregiver. I would be worried about him at home and he would be worried asking about me gone.
