Hi, My Mum Has Quite Severe Dementia And Has Started Wanting To Go Out All Of The Time. Anyone Know Why This May Be And How To Cope?
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

Hi,
My Mum has quite severe dementia and has suddenly started wanting to go out all of the time. No sooner do we get home and she wants to go out again. Even eating her tea sometimes she'll insist on keeping her coat on and then immediately wants to go out. Does anyone know why this may be happening and how to cope? My Dad had a stroke 6 months ago and is struggling to keep taking her out and doesn't know how to cope.

We call it running in our home. We have ended up hiding my father-in-law's shoes and coat. He searches for them and when he asks where they are, we answer there somewhere, and he keeps looking until he forgets what he is looking for. Gives him exercise. We find he usually wants to run when sun downing. With warmer weather coming, we have to strategize ... We shall see.

We sat outside on the porch and reminded her this was our home day.
