Father is 87. Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s 3years and 5months ago. Entering late stages, lives with me. He has been hard of hearing his entire Adult life, now completely deaf in left ear. Had a pacemaker pit in 5 years ago, how ironic. Now he’s developing cataracts. Why should we keep him on Aricept. He would not want this disease. Was always his worst fear.
Just a response to the group regarding my question of stopping the Aricept. Neurologist advised against it, saying my father’s mood swings could possibly worsen. Just wanted to let others know if anyone is wondering the same.
Primary Care Physician a great resource. Discuss pros and cons. Why does Dr. think it is more important for him to take it?
I’m so sorry Marlene. I hope Ray is feeling better. I’ve been offline for 2months trying to adjust and get my father adjusted to living in a Memory Care facility. It’s been very difficult
I'm worrying about Ray at the moment he is very pale , very tired, not good on his feet , confused after being at the day centre yet they want him to keep going to give me a rest I'm not a dr so don't have the answer , do I go to dr and say what ?
My mom couldn't tolerate the Aricept. Made her more confused and loopy. She could only take Namenda successfully. Mom has been a lifelong asthmatic and I think that combined with other medications for COPD etc. just overloaded her little system. She has always been not thin but trim. Not sure if that has anything to do with her inability to tolerate so many of those meds but that was my theory.
