My father lately has been having a full conversation with "someone" ask and answering questions and nodding like he is talking to someone right in from of him.

It's ok for people to be doing that it's quite common as long as it's someone they like they are talking too then let them be no harm done I've seen people looking in the mirror at themself an chatting away

My mother did this for the first time the other day, during a visit to her nursing home. Previously she had told my cousin that she had been visited by and talked to a number of people (all of whom are dead!).

Yep. From full on conversations to simply mumbling non stop.

Mine used to do that all the time before he went into a facility..of course I dont know if he does it now, but he says when he wakes up, he always says "Hello" to his photo of me.! Not quite the same tho...
