One of the most powerful things I watched several years ago after my mom was diagnosed was Maria Schriver's documentary (her father was a sufferer) I think called "The Alzheimer's Project". I believe it was a HBO special but is available for viewing. There was a video she did with her father as well that was so enlightening for me! A pivotal turning point for me was her realization and encouragement to enjoy every moment with her dad and not try to correct him or call him out when he stated something wrong (not recalling details or "making up" stories). For my own peace of mind, this helped me to find the beauty in what I called "the 50 first dates" -beginning each day as if it were the first, even if you just had the same conversation. Savor the moments as much as you can despite the horrific challenges. Find the positive in every opportunity as difficult as that can be. And if at all possible, do your best too separate the disease from the person. đź’ť

A very explicit book is "Contented Dementia" by Oliver James. A write up on this book says---this book helps explain how Dementia affects people and it has some fantastic techniques to help those affected to stay happy and secure. It also helps those involved in caring for dementia patients.

The book can be ordered from the Website www.contenteddementiatrust.org. This website also gives valuable insight.

Go to YouTube and look for Teepa Snow. You'll see excellent videos by
a lady who knows her subject.

As a nurse as well as a caregiver, a very good reference book I have and recommend is "Alzheimer's for Dummies". It is written simple, easy to understand language and format. It is written so that the average caregiver can follow and comprehend.

The best resource I have found is the book Contented Dementia by Oliver James. Excellent book that helps you understand what dementia does to your loved ones brain, and how best to support them.
